In this case, neither. The original wording is right (unless my English grammar is wrong, haha). I want my report to feel like he can depend on me, and that I won't ignore his concerns or issues. This has to happen first - before I can depend on him even.
But of course, it is best to have it both ways. I already feel like I can depend on him in many ways. He is not passive, eager to jump in and help when needed, and I like it. So if I don't put too much on him, I can be sure he'll deliver.
> My end goal is for him to feel like I always got his back.
Did you perhaps mean either
"My end goal is for him to feel like he always got my back."
or
"My end goal is for me to feel like I always got his back."
(I suspect the former).
