I was in Amsterdam for the weekend and it was freezing. I'd underpacked and didn't have a proper sweater, plus it was one of those days where shorts seemed appropriate in the morning, gloves and mittens in the afternoon - so in a frenzy I searched for something warm.
There it was, in the window of some boutique .. a sweater composed of two sweaters, cut up, re-assembled so that the colour swaths represented an origami paper crane.
Gregarious perhaps (I'm a shy white guy), but warm nevertheless, so I bought it.
That one sweater has gotten me more compliments, and random approaches from strangers, than any other device in my life. To the point now that I keep an eye out for the origami paper crane symbol wherever I go, and now have a small collection of badges and embroideries and so on.
The world wants peace. The paper crane is a great symbol for that. I've worn that sweater in very hostile environments (Palestine vs. Zionist demonstrations) and have, categorically, made friends on both sides with that symbol, alone.
If you haven't learned how to fold one, I highly recommend it. Leaving it for the bar help or waiters always brings a smile ..
On the day that the war in Afghanistan started in 2001, I visited Trafalgar Square with my sister late at night to place a singular paper crane in each of the two pools below the fountains.
I have liked paper cranes ever since, hence I commend your crane-themed fashion 'statements'.
I remember this legend because it was one of the main plot points in Paper Mario: The Origami King. The villain wants to fold a thousand cranes to get their wish to destroy all Toads granted, and decides to use the player character as the final crane after having already folded the other 999 of them.
Nice storytelling. I don't really like the stacked items from a UX-perspective as it's not clear how many items there are and content is hidden in this way.

That's great, I seem to remember seeing something about that in the news, way back then.
Happy to know a fellow paper crane enthusiast. It really is a unifying symbol.
Do you have a photo of the sweater?
Not really, I'll try to remember to set one up though ..

L.A. Noire is another game featuring this legend.

I couldn't read it at all. Two overlapping popups that i dont feel like getting rid of block the entire viewport on mobile.
"Dear readers, get fucked"
"popups that i dont feel like getting rid of"
Sometimes the users _are_ the problem
If the first thing I'm seeing on a site are popups, you don't care about my visit and I don't care about your content.
This is how that page looks: https://i.imgur.com/U95ePi0.png
They're asking me to:
1) Allow them to use cookies to "operate their website"
2) Allow them to use cookies to "carry out actions I request"
3) Allow them to use cookies to "personalize my experience on this website"
4) Allow them to use cookies to "enhance my experience on this website"
5) Agree to their Privacy Policy (which I can't read unless I pre-approve this)
6) Agree to their Terms and Conditions (which I can't read unless I pre-approve this)
And I haven't seen a single character of the content they want to trade all of this for. So that's a no for me.
I used to think of paper cranes simply as something we folded as kids. Knowing the history behind them makes them feel very different now.
