I know a lot of NH readers homeschool their kids; any of them teaching computer science? I never pushed my kids toward any path. None of them were interested in what I did for work so the most I "forced" on them was an awareness of how internet scams and surveillance capitalism works so as they use computers and phones they can be properly skeptical and not be taken by scammers.
One daughter was on the spectrum and could not deal with high school - we tried finding her an alternative school but they are scarce and too far away - we enrolled her in a home-schooling program with certification and gateway to school leaving certificate but had her go in daily to a tutoring center to work at her own pace but a tutor checking if she is on track.
Kids will goof off if you don't check on them and parents make for terrible teachers - seen so many admiring the lesson materials when it arrives and start with gusto with mom taking more off days and eventually it all fizzles out and the kids end up without a school leaving certificate.

> an illiteracy and innumeracy crisis.
Is that what we're calling them now?
