Debt is a problem but also is useful. I think this is a problem in analytics as much as a societal problem that we've moved life into perpetual debt funding.
To me, the problem here isn't really the debt, the problem is the debt isn't part of the normal financial reporting cycle. So it's contribution to the economy is being estimated, not measured.
