How is this a surprise? Potatoes produce fruit that looks like a tomato.
I wasn't surprised initially because it's well known they are related, but IIUC the interesting part is that the last hybridization is more recent than expected.
Because in nature, one thing looking like another is not necessarily an example of shared ancestry.
